Project Overview
Leaks in pressurized air and gas systems lead to substantial energy waste, environmental pollution, and operating expenses. Traditional methods of detecting leaks are labor intensive and sensitive to ambient noise. This project aims to automate the leak detection process with a network of ultrasonic vibration sensors. The sensors will be placed on either side of a suspected leak, allowing its location to be precisely determined.
Long-Term Goals
- Test sensors against competing models
- Create a sensor network and a GUI for control
- Reduce energy wasted in industrial facilities
Skills You Will Develop
- Signal processing
- Embedded and application programming
- Facilities monitoring and data collection
Quick Points
- The majority of industrial facilities use compressed air systems in some way
- Our sensors will help automate the labor-intensive leak detection process
